I'm FINALLY Here!

Okay Megan, here is my update!!

Wow, where to begin. So I left Texas Sunday morning and arrived at JFK around 3. Michelle (the mom) and Luc (the youngest and only boy) met me at the airport and drove me home-I got my first taste of New York traffic..not so wonderful. But everything was covered in snow  and soo beautiful! They live in this adorable, small town. Life here is so different, I can't get over it. They have one grocery store and a ton of little specialty shops, which is where everyone shops. All of the homes are different. No cookie cutter neighborhoods. The kids are great! Rennie (the oldest) is definitely hitting her teenage years so she is a bit rebellious but really fun! Lia (the second oldest) is sooo energetic and talkative. She is always talking about something and whatever it is that she's talking about she could go on for hours! She's also a bit bossy which most of the time is pretty funny. Naomi (the third child) is super, super quiet and very shy. She took the most time to open up but she is soo cute. And she's the "good one". The one you never have to ask to do her homework, or pick up after herself. And then there's Luc. He was shy at first too, but by dinner the first night he was great! He is so much fun! He is super smart and imaginative. The job itself is just as easy as I thought it would be. Getting up, fixing Naomi and Luc breakfast. Getting Naomi out the door by 720 to get on her bus. Taking Luc and Baby (the dog) to school. Yes, the dog goes to daycare, too!  And then having the middle of the day off. In the afternoon it's just picking up Luc and Baby and taking the kids to various activities and then I'm done around 645.

I know it's not much for now, but I promise once I've been here a bit longer I will tell you more!! Plus it will be more fun to show you pics of the city! :)

New York Bound!!!

Well, it's official-I am off to New York!

So, since the last time I wrote there is soo much that has happened! I was working with Beacon Hill Nanny Agency in Massachusetts and I did hear from one family that didn't really fit what I was looking for. And then nothing. I didn't hear from anyone else and that was really hard. I really felt like God opened every door to make this happen and then it just wasn't happening. So me, being the very proactive person that I am, starting looking for another agency that was going to be more helpful. I found this great agency in New York-the New York Nanny Agency. I applied on Wednesday, Jan. 12th, interviewed  with the agency on the 13th and at the end of that interview they told me about this family they thought I would be perfect for! Saturday, the 15th, I interviewed with the mom, Michelle, and we had a really great conversation. We talked not only about the job, but also were able to talk about random things totally off topic. We just really got along. Then on Monday the 17th, I got the call offering me the job! Just another reason to believe that prayer goes along way . So now I am going crazy trying to pack and see everyone before I leave Sunday!! So thank you for all who have asked and supported me through this whole process! Once I get to New York I will post pictures and tell you more about the wonderful family I will be working with! :)

The Beginning

Well, I am hoping that I am at the beginning of a fun and exciting journey!

A couple of months ago I left my job I had at the church in McKinney. It was tough but it turned out to be something great. I started to look for a new job part-time or full-time to go with my part-time job as a nanny for the Speer family. Everywhere I looked there was something in the way. I felt like nothing was going to work. So after joking around with my best friend Kristen about moving to Alabama to live with her, I thought about it and decided I really would look in other states to find work. I came across this website for a nanny agency in Newton, Massachusetts. Everything I read about the process and the families they hired for I loved. They required a lot of experience from their nannies and I didn't really think I had what it took for them to even consider me. I filled out the online application, anyway, just to say I tried. Ten minutes after submitting it I received a call asking to set up a phone interview. I then got an e-mail telling me everything that was needed for me proceed. I needed to send in my resume, a picture, an essay about myself, a DVD of myself answering questions about my background, and I had to have a physical and TB test done. Then I had a 3 1/2 hour phone interview with 3 different women. I finally passed all of their tests and made it into the system. I really feel like God is pushing me in this direction. He opened every door to make it happen and I can't ignore that.

Most of these families will be located in the north east region of the United States so it will be a big move for me. I've never really lived outside of Texas or away from my family. Though cold weather isn't really my thing, I am excited about the change of scenery. A part that really comforts me is knowing that I am walking into a family atmosphere. I am not going to be all alone, and I will have a plan in place before I go. And I can say that I did it, I tried. I'll keep you posted on my families I hear from! :) xx
